Tung Ho promotes eco-functional yarn.

According to THT Chairperson Sui-Ying Tsai, through the management team’s perseverance, THT began transformation since the development of its bamboo charcoal functional yarn in 2011. With sustainable development as the corporate vision, THT has installed green energy and energy conservation systems at its Matou Plant and built an eco factory that reduces carbon emissions and uses clean energy. The plant’s solar output is up to 2.7GWh, reducing carbon by about 1,400tCO2e. THT has also teamed up with IBM to build the IBM Smart Air-conditioning System to control optimal ambient temperature and humidity with the least energy consumption. The use of solar energy reduces GHG emissions from the spinning process to meet the global demand for carbon reduction.

According to President Chia-Heng Chang, low carbon, recycling, and sustainability are the natural trends of the textile industry. THT has been actively addressing these trends, such as successfully developing a recycled yarn with marine waste and biodegradable polyester eco-yarn to help resolve marine plastic and microfiber pollution. In response to the global demand for carbon reduction, THT uses natural fibers such as hemp, organic cotton, flax, and Lenzing’s TencelTM fiber and Eco Clean technology. They all are Carbon Neutral®-certified carbon neutralization products.

According to Chairperson Tsai, THT’s advanced Siro Wrapped technology can create eco-friendly, comfortable, and multifunctional differentiated textiles. For example, the Siro Wrapped filament-spun blended yarn produced with this technology has a two-fold structure for customers to reduce the back-end twisting process. Compared to traditional ply yarns, the profile of the Siro Wrapped filament-spun blended yarn is smoother than that of the twisted yarns to make textiles with a better touch.

The Siro Wrapped filament-spun blended yarn supports mechanical stretch, fine denier, profiled/shaped moisture transferring filaments in combination with Lenzing’s TencelTM, modal fiber made with the Eco Clean chlorine-free bleach process, TencelTM using the RefibraTM technology, and LENZINGTM ECOVEROTM eco-friendly fibers that use 50% less water and reduce 50% less carbon emissions to create eco-friendly, comfortable, and multifunctional differentiated textiles.
