[Exhibition Press] Tung Ho Textile as an eco-functional spun specialist

Positioning itself as “an eco-functional spun specialist”, Tung Ho Textile constantly attends to market demand and industry trends. Climate change in recent years has caused the world market to remain on guard for production-related carbon emissions and environmental impact. Brands started to demand that their suppliers manage “greenhouse gas (GHG) emission and environmental impact” on a more scientific and data-driven basis.

According to Tung Ho Textile  Chairperson Sui-Ying Tsai, sustainable development has been Tung Ho Textile’s core business philosophy, given the constant attention directed to the spun yarn, which is sustainable and functional and has better physical properties; sustainable development is also the goal shared by all Tung Ho Textile employees, given the two new product series developed by Tung Ho Textile in 2022, namely, low-carbon series and filament and spun composite series. In doing so, Tung Ho Textile aligns itself with the international brands’ goals of “carbon management” and “environmental protection”.

Sui-Ying Tsai further pointed out that the low-carbon yarn series is designed, developed, and improved by ISO 14067. Adopted materials include certified organic cotton, recycled fiber, and Lenzing’s Tencel™ fiber. Through the use of clean energy and improvement in the manufacturing process, the Lyocell and Modal fiber of Lenzing’s Tencel™ fiber can greatly reduce GHG emissions by more than 70% compared with those generated in the traditional manufacturing process and has been certified by ClimatePartner as a carbon-neutral fiber of the true carbon zero series.

Tung Ho Textile developed low-carbon yarns by inventorying and improving several aspects such as low-carbon raw materials, clean energy, and in-process energy conservation. Taking organic cotton as an example, it emits 1.887Kg CO2e/kilogram, 57% less than the 4.42Kg CO2e/kilogram emitted by traditional CVC blended yarns.

In addition, to optimize the physical properties of the spun yarn, Tung Ho Textile developed the “filament and spun composite yarn”. With the stiffness and anti-pilling properties of filament fiber, the filament-spun composite yarn has performed well in the anti-pilling test and the snagging test. The great improvement in the hairiness, evenness, and strength of yarns helps reduce microfiber shedding.
